Fillmore, Utah – William David Goddard, 84, passed away Friday, December 8, 2023 at Utah Valley Hospital. He was born July 5, 1939 in Fillmore, Utah to Roy Kenneth and Elaine Melville Goddard. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Ashman, on July 1, 1959 in the Manti, Utah Temple.
Bill grew up in Southern California until he was a junior in high school when his parents divorced. At which time, his mom moved him and his siblings back to Fillmore to live with his Grandma to help take care of her. He graduated from Millard High School in 1957. Bill served his country in the Army National Guard for 9 years. After completing his associates degree in civil engineering from what is now Southern Utah University, he went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and from there became a professional civil engineer for the Soil Conservation Service. During his career with the SCS, there were numerous transfers with promotions. After a long career, Bill ultimately retired as the State Soil Conservationist of Nevada and later returned to Fillmore.
After settling in Fillmore, he was able to build his dream shop where he spent many hours making beautiful creations for his children and grandchildren. He loved spending time with his sons and sometimes his daughters working on cars and doing home repairs, and could fix just about anything. He also had a love of travel and really loved his trips to Hawaii along with fishing at Kent’s Lake and Otter Creek.
Bill lived a life of service. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has a strong testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He served as Bishop of the Morgantown, WV ward for five years among many other callings. He enjoyed working in the Reno, NV and Manti UT temples with his loving sweetheart. Together they served two missions; one in Tennessee as well as Sparks, NV. He was always willing to lend a hand to help with neighbors.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of almost 65 years who continues to live in Fillmore, sister Shirley (Vern) Brunson of Meadow, UT, brother Jim (Connie) Goddard of Las Vegas, NV, brother Ralph (Linda) Goddard of Monroe, UT, son Bret (Randi) Goddard of Gladstone, MO, daughter Robin (John) Eberle of Connoquenessing, PA, son Bart (Deborah) Goddard of Fillmore, UT, son Travis (Kristina) Goddard of Reno, NV, son Tyler (Kaylene) Goddard of Cedar City, UT, daughter Penny (Kelly) Gillins of Fillmore, UT., 29 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
