William Gregg Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Inc. - Lansdale on Dec. 1, 2025.
William (Bill) Gregg, Jr., 77, of Ambler, passed away peacefully at his home on November 28, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, he was the first child of William and Margareta (Long) Gregg.
Bill grew up in Fort Washington, PA, and attended high school at Phil-Mont Christian Academy. He was a graduate of Penn State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for over 40 years in the water treatment field.
An avid lover of baseball, Bill played for many years on his church softball team, managed the team for several years and also was an umpire in the league. He followed the Philadelphia Phillies faithfully. He enjoyed coaching his three sons' various sports teams for many years as well.
Bill enjoyed vacations in the Pocono Mountains when his boys were young. There he spent many hours untangling fishing lines as his sons learned the sport, along with hiking, swimming and exploring. He also enjoyed the Jersey Shore where the family vacationed for many years in Ocean City. One of Bill's greatest joys was spending family time with his children and grandchildren. Trips to the Chesapeake in White Stone, VA, Gatlinburg, TN in the Smoky Mountains, the Outer Banks, NC, and Disney World provided special family memories for him.
When Bill was 11 years old, he became gravely ill and it was discovered that he had a malignant brain tumor. He was rushed into surgery while many Chelten members knelt outside of his hospital room praying for him. Bill asked the Lord for healing and committed his life to God if he survived the surgery. The Lord answered those prayers and gave Bill a full life for many years. As a result of that defining moment, his life became one of faith and service.
Bill was a member of Chelten – A Church of Hope for over six decades. Over the years he served as an elder, a trustee, a community group Bible study leader, and on various church committees. He was devoted to his family and was a loving, faithful husband to his best friend, Cheryl Lynn (Davis), with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Jeffrey S. Gregg (Elizabeth) of Horsham, Bradley D. Gregg of Horsham, and Bryan A. Gregg (Alana) of Ambler. He was a devoted and loving grandfather to his five grandchildren: Abigail, Dylan, Collin, Mason and Rowan. Bill is also survived by his sister, Ruth Thomas (Harry) of Bridgeville, DE, and his brother Glenn Gregg (Barbara) of Fort Washington. He was preceded in death by his sister, Alma Allen.
Bill's passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family and many others, yet his legacy of faith and devotion to his family will be remembered. His was a life well lived.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 13 at Chelten – A Church of Hope, 1601 N. Limekiln Pike, Dresher, PA. 19025. (Visitation at 10:00am; Memorial Service at 11:00am) Burial will be held privately in George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting.
