William Hall Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 22, 2025.
William "Bill" Hall, Jr., was born on June 2, 1937, and passed away peacefully at his home on November 25, 2025. He was born at the California Hospital in Los Angeles. (It still exists today, however owned by another company). My dad had a wonderful life, filled with friends, love and wonderful adventures along the way.

Bill grew up in Oxnard, CA where he graduated from Oxnard High School in 1955. He went to college at Utah State University and graduated with a BS degree in engineering. After that, I know he backpacked through Europe, sung his way through San Jose, CA in the 1960's and lived the bachelor life! During that time he was in a band with his two close friends, Jerry Ashton and Glenn Churchman, where dad played the banjo and/or the guitar. He used to play and sing for his daughter, Sally, and his wife, Mary, my mom, at home and we would always join in and sing along. Jerry, Glenn and my dad remained friends to this day. Sadly, Glenn passed away about 10 years ago.

During the 1950, Bill's mom and dad built a beach house in the Pierpont area of Ventura. Bill's dad, who is Bill Hall, Sr., was the City Building Inspector of Ventura. Their house still remains to this day and his daughter, Sally, lives there.

In 1968, Bill met and married his wife, Mary, in Santa Barbara. They remained a beautiful couple for 57 years – until sadly Mary suddenly passed away in March 2025. During their marriage, Bill worked for Point Mugu Naval Base in the Range Communications Department for 45 years, before his retirement in 2012. He was lucky enough to travel to many of the Channel Islands, including Santa Cruz, where he enjoyed what his friend and colleague, Tom Dawson, described as "Island Margaritas." Can only imagine what that concoction was made of!!

He is survived by his daughter, Sally, and two of his dear and closest friends, Jerry Ashton and Tom Dawson. His beloved wife, Mary Hall, preceded him in death in 2025, his mother, Irene Hall, in 1995, and his father, Bill Hall, Sr., in 1960.

He will be sadly missed by Sally and will continue to be loved and missed deeply by those whose lives he touched.

Graveside service is December 16, 2025, at 1:30 pm at the Santa Barbara Cemetery, 901 Channel Drive, Santa Barbara. Bill was cremated and buried with his wife, Mary.

I knew Bill when I was a student at San Jose State, and sang with him and Jerry Ashton at Sal's Pizza (?) for $5/night and all the product we could eat. He was a lovely guy, always cheerful and fun, and picked a mean banjo, for sure. RIP.

I had the great fortune of being Bill Hall's friend, Jerry Ashton. I met Bill during my last Navy tour of duty at Port Hueneme in 1958-59. That came about when I wandered onto the beach with my ukulele the summer of '58 and met two.lifeguards. Bill Hall and Glenn Churchma. It was an immediate bond.

I want to share more of his, Glenn's and our story. Either continuing here, or starting a new post. RIP, Bill and Glenn.
