William Hall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oakcrest Funeral Services Algona on Feb. 8, 2026.
William Arthur Hall, 78, of Algona, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Bill was born June 1, 1947, in Algona, the son of Walter A. and Margaret E. (Watters) Hall. He grew up in Algona and graduated from Garrigan High School in 1965. Bill later attended Estherville Junior College, where he played football. While in college, he met his beautiful bride, Sandra Miller. The two were married on September 2, 1967, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville.

Shortly after their marriage, Bill and Sandy returned to Algona, where they raised their four children: Chad, William, Lance, and Jenny. Bill began working alongside his father selling International Harvester equipment. With Bill's passion for fishing, the business eventually transitioned, and in 1978 he sold his first Lund boat. He proudly worked alongside his family operating Algona Marine for many years.

Family was always most important to Bill, especially the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed traveling with Sandy to Arizona, as well as spending time at the lake in Okoboji. Bill was known to enjoy more than an occasional cigarette and Diet Coke, and he loved playing cards with friends and his hours at the track and garage working on "the race car." He also found great fulfillment in mentoring others through the Finn House in Algona.

Bill was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and fought bravely for two years. Through this fight he never once complained, even at his lowest points, he just fought with determination to "beat this thing."

He is survived by his wife, Sandra of Algona; his children and grandchildren: Chad (Wendi) Hall of Algona and their children, Carter (Taylor) Hall, Ciera (Will) Fraser, and Olivia Hall; William (Pranom) Hall of Scottsdale, Arizona, and their children, Jett and Julian; Lance Hall of Algona and his son, Liam; and Jennifer Hall of Scottsdale, Arizona, and her children, Jackson, Isabella, and Willa. He is also survived by four sisters: Jeanne (Robert) Brown of Austin, Texas; Judy (Greg) Kendall of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Kristy (Ron) Walker of Arnolds Park; and Kathy (Mark) McGill of Okoboji; a sister-in-law, Ruth (Richard) Gottsche of Estherville; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Terri Jo Hall; two sisters, Susan Hall and Loretta Spies; and two nephews and a niece, Carter Brown, Jennifer Manly, and Rod Gottsche.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Divine Mercy Parish – St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona. A graveside inurnment will take place on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bill Hall Memorial Fund, which the family will distribute to his favorite charities.
