William Donald Hamilton, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on July 29, 1939, he was one of 12 children born to the late Herbert and Mary Hamilton.
Donald was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where he notably served on the cooking team. In recognition of his contributions, Donald proudly earned the title of Kentucky Colonel. He dedicated many years of his career to WR Grace, from which he retired. Donald continued part-time at Reid's Orchard, a job he undertook from the tender age of 14 until his later years. Alongside his professional duties, he also contributed to the tradition of farming and tobacco cultivation, which held a special place in his heart.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Donald pursued various hobbies that brought him joy and fulfillment. He was a talented woodworker, known for his ability to build and fix just about anything. His love for gardening allowed him to nurture plants and witness the beauty of growth, reflecting his nurturing spirit and appreciation for nature. Donald cherished the great outdoors, enjoying camping excursions that allowed him to create lasting memories. Most importantly, he treasured spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Sylvia Faye Hamilton and son, Terry Donald Hamilton.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Vickie Hagan (Bill), Kim Johnson (Jeff) and Shelly Hamilton; grandchildren, Elijah, Isaiah and Madalyn Hagan, Jesse Hamilton, Cassie Harley, Samuel and Cambron Johnson, Kendall Lashbrook and Cheyenne Merimee; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral Mass will be 1 PM Thursday, October 2nd, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 10 AM until time of service at the church. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
