William J Hartmann Sr.

William J. Hartmann Sr., age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Born in Bordentown, he was the beloved son of the late George and Rose Hartmann. William attended St. Mary's School in Bordentown, Trenton Catholic Boys School, and graduated from William MacFarland High School in 1956. During his senior year, he was a member of the basketball team that won the Sectional State Championship.

Following high school, William proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He remained deeply involved in his community throughout his life, serving as a member of the Humane Fire Department and as a Special Police Officer with the Bordentown City Police Department.

William dedicated over 38 years of service to New Jersey Bell, Bell Atlantic, and Verizon. He later continued his public service with the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, where he worked as a Communications Technician for ten years. He was also a member of the Bordentown and Hamilton Elks.

William was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his five sons-William, David, Robert, Kenneth, and Keith-from his first wife, Josephine; and two stepdaughters, Sharon and Patricia, from his second wife, Joan. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, George and Raymond, and his sisters, Margurite, Rosemarie Lynch, and Patricia Heupel.

An avid athlete, William loved playing softball in the Bordentown Firemen's League, the Telephone Company League, and the Mercer County Slo-Pitch League. He also had a lifelong love of golf and played in many leagues over the years. William will be remembered for his dedication to family, service to his community, and enjoyment of the games he loved.

A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held on Friday February 6, 2026, 11:00 am at the Bordentown Home for Funerals, 40 Crosswicks Street, Bordentown, NJ with Deacon Gary Richardson Officiating. Calling hours will be held Friday morning from 9:30 am until the time of Service. Entombment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery Hamilton NJ.
