William Joseph Haughton, 67, better known as Bill to friends and family, departed from this Earth on Friday the 13th of June, 2025- a perfect choice! May he be surrounded by young, sniffable nurses in the afterlife (he caused quite a commotion in the hospital).
Bill was born August 27, 1957 in Camden, New Jersey, and had the good sense to get the hell out of Camden in his infancy. He attended Hoggard High School in Wilmington, North Carolina, and was well known for his long, dark ponytail and occasional alleged streaking incidents in his high school days.
Bill worked at the University of North Carolina Wilmington for four years, in both the cafeteria, the math lab, and the punchcard-operated computing lab, before attending UNCW and receiving his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. That was back in the good old days when college students didn't assume their parents would cover tuition, room, board, and beer money.
He went on to work for DuPont (as did his father Milt) as a network engineer before being "sold into slavery" at Computer Science Corporation (CSC). Bill worked with several groups over his career. He worked with the mainframe SNA networks group, a cyber security group and finished his career as a firewall specialist, mentor to all and the ultimate joker! His focus in networks and communication was a thread throughout his professional and personal life. After he retired he continued his career as Assistant Senior Manager with Worldly Duties and Transportation Executive (he drove the kids to school!). Because of his skill as a communicator and problem solver he collected many devoted friends throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife Nina, son Connor, daughter Jenna and the many Haughton's, close friends and the community of people who called Bill their friend. Bill; you will be missed and are dear to all of us.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10 AM at Wilmington Community Evangelical Church, 1512 Brackenville Road, Hockessin, DE 19707. A second memorial service will be held in Wilmington, NC at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Delaware Hospice, 630 Churchmans Road, Suite 200, Newark, DE 19702 or visit delawarehospice.org/donate/memorial-gifts/, as they were very helpful in his final weeks.

You can add to Bill´s UNCW resume that he worked at the small radio station on campus. His input led to it´s call letters, "WLOZ", which may or may not have been missed by those in regulatory oversight at the time.
