After retiring from the Ford Motor Company in Woodhaven, MI, they moved to TN and later settled in FL, where his hobbies included woodworking and building mechanical models.

William is survived by his sister, Nellie Drost (John), and his 7 children – James Heemskerk (Sue), Kathleen Van Vynckt, William Heemskerk (Colleen), Carolyn Clark (Kyle), Timothy Heemskerk, Christine Martin (Kevin), and Kimberly Seipenko (Todd).
