William E. Hickerson, Bill to his friends and Billy to his family, was born in Denver, Colorado on September 5, 1945. He grew up in Sacramento with his parents Bill and Mary Hickerson and sisters Kathryn and Mary Anne.

As an adult he spent time in Sacramento, Minneapolis, and landed in San Francisco. He loved city life and lived in San Francisco for over 40 years. He worked as Facilities Manager at Golden Gate University until retirement. San Francisco provided the perfect backdrop for his involvement in and love of the arts. Museums and art galleries often were his destination for the day. He pursued many photography classes that inspired books and numerous prints of the city. His passion for capturing San Francisco architecture in photographs brought buildings into a new perspective and his photographs of San Francisco Street people were breathtaking glimpses into other's reality. Bill's daily ritual included many miles of walking the streets of the city. He loved walking to the Bay. Often, he'd have the camera in tow to capture that special shot.

Bill was a gentle soul, kind, generous and extremely sentimental. He was close with friends and family, including many nieces, nephews, and cousins. On August 23, 2025, Bill left us too soon. He fought his metastatic prostate cancer with courage and hope until the end. We will miss him dearly but find comfort in his peace.

In lieu of flowers, donations to American Cancer Society or Prostate Cancer Foundation are appreciated.

Funeral Service will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church at 3235 Arden Way, Sacramento on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 10:00am with burial following at Calvary Cemetery, 7101 Verner Avenue, Citrus Heights.
