William Randolph Hobbs, passed away peacefully at the age of 86, on Friday, December 20, 2024, in Spartanburg, SC. He was born on June 22, 1938, in Augusta, GA to the late Jessie James Hobbs and Mary Lizzie Hughes Hobbs. A devoted husband and father, William illustrated the qualities of love and dedication throughout his life. He cherished his late wife, Bessie Hodge Hobbs, and embraced her children as his own, exemplifying a generous and compassionate spirit.
He was a long-time member of First Baptist Spartanburg where he grew in his faith. In his professional career, William became the shift manager at Union Camp, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. His contributions extended beyond the workplace; he was deeply involved in his community, serving as a volunteer fireman at the Whitney Fire Department, where he also held the position of Fire Commissioner. Additionally, William embraced leadership roles within various organizations, becoming a past Worthy Patron of The Eastern Star and a Freemason, a member of Whitney Lodge 264, AFM. His community service was further highlighted by his time as a Boy Scout leader, mentoring the next generation with care and dedication.
William always welcomed friends and family into his home. He was the dependable friend who was always there when you needed him, offering support and encouragement.
He is survived by his beloved daughters: Carol K. Wofford, Robin Tucker, and Cindy Blackwell, along with his son, Dennis L. Kimbrell (Linda). He leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren: Bo Wofford, Annie Wofford Hames (Landon), Dr. Tiffany Kimbrell, David Kimbrell, Travis Tucker, Toma Tucker, as well as his great-grandchildren, Jake Hames, Hadley Wofford, and Harlyn Tumax. William is also survived by his brother, Tommy Hobbs (Connie). William was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Hodge Hobbs; his son-in-law, Tommy P. Tucker; and his brother, James Hobbs.
Family will receive friends from 11:30 am - 12:45 pm, Friday, December 27, 2024, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
Funeral service will be held 1:00 pm, Friday, December 27, 2024, Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel followed by burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone and the Rev. Phillip K. Dodd.
A special thanks to caregivers, Jo and Erin who went above and beyond to provide love and care to our dad, as well as Gentiva Hospice nurses, Angel and Teja.
