William “Doug” Hollinger, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, passed away on September 23, 2025, in his hometown at the age of 62.
Born on January 10, 1963, in Emmitsburg, Doug spent his life deeply rooted in the community he loved. He attended Saint Joseph’s High school in Emmitsburg and graduated in 1981. He was known for his warm presence and unwavering loyalty to those around him. Whether sharing stories with friends at the American Legion, playing softball, being a member of the vigilant hose company or spending cherished moments with his grandchildren, Doug brought joy and laughter wherever he went.
Doug was a devoted husband to his wife, Kay Hollinger of Emmitsburg of 34 years. Together they built a life centered on love and family. He was a proud father to Landon Hollinger and his wife Lexie Hollinger of Fairfield, and to his daughter Nicole Hollinger of Fairfield. His role as a grandfather brought him immense happiness—he treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren, Austyn and Kaia Knoedler and Everhett Hollinger.
He will also remembered by three brothers John, Bruce, Steve and one sister Sandy, along with nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Theresa and John Hollinger, as well as his brothers Jeffrey and Greg Hollinger.
Doug’s favorite pastimes reflected the heart of who he was: a man who valued connection, community, and fun. He loved gathering with friends at the American Legion, where camaraderie came easily. He delighted in playing with his grandchildren, creating memories filled with laughter and affection. His favorite past times included doing crossword puzzles and watching his favorite tv shows. On DePaul Street, he proudly held the unofficial title of “mayor,” a testament to how beloved he was by neighbors and friends alike.
Above all else, Doug will be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friends, someone whose presence made others feel welcome and whose legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Family will receive friends for visitation from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Tuesday September 30, 2025 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 210 West Main Street, Emmitsburg (21727).
