On Friday, September 12, 2025, Hilda Cecelia Koontz passed away peacefully at Hanover Hall in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Born on Tuesday, January 9, 1940 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Jesse Koontz and Helma Cecelia Koontz née Petz.
Hilda was an accomplished, ambitious woman who achieved great success in her career. After graduating from Hood College with a Bachelors of Arts degree in French and Political Science, Hilda pursued a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of St. Thomas. Using her deep knowledge of human development, she assisted companies in creating career development or effective organizational programs for over 20 years. Hilda was well respected in her career and provided reviews for the Consulting Psychologists Press and American Counseling Association. In addition, she was a recipient of the Master Career Development Professional designation from the National Career Development Association, a well-respected trade organization in her field.
In 2001, Hilda began lecturing on the American Civil War and participating in Civil War reenactments. Her deep knowledge of the war led to her becoming the Past President of the Gettysburg Civil War Roundtable and member of the Company of Military Historians. She explored lesser-known topics of the war such as PTSD and authored a book on female spies in the war.
She is survived by her beloved children, son Matthew C. Kuehl and wife, Anne Forcey; and daughter, Holly Elizabeth Kuehl, and her five (5) cherished grandchildren.
