William "Bill" Driscoll Holman, 79, passed away Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, in Lewiston with family by his side.

Bill was born May 9, 1946, in Lewiston to Driscoll and Ruth (Stevens) Holman. He spent his childhood in Clarkston and his high school years in Potlatch. The family returned to Lewiston where Bill graduated from Lewiston High School in 1964. He attended Lewis-Clark State College graduating in 1969 with a degree in secondary education. After graduation, he moved to Council, Idaho, and taught U.S. history, government, P.E. and social studies at Council Junior-Senior High School, while coaching basketball and football.

In 1972, Bill returned to North Idaho and began a 23-year career working for Potlatch Corp., in St. Maries and Lewiston. In 1974, he met his wife, Barbara Dale Holman; the couple were married Nov. 8, 1975. In 1979, they welcomed their first child, Robert Holman, and shortly thereafter their second child, Will Holman, in 1981. In 1994, Bill established and operated his own business, Proactive Safety Consulting, and continued to work in the independent safety consulting industry until 2014 when he retired.

For 49 years, Bill and Barbara enjoyed spending time together fishing, camping and going to their family cabin on Freeman Creek. Bill was often found hunting and riding four-wheelers with his sons, and shared many fond memories with close and extended family members at the annual family fly-fishing/camping trip on the Lochsa River each July. Later in life, he discovered the game of pickleball and became an active participant of it within the Lewiston community. He was also instrumental in assisting the city of Potlatch in beginning their pickleball club. Many close friendships were made with his special pickleball family. He enjoyed watching the LC State Warrior basketball teams and was an avid supporter of them and the college.

He was known to be steadfast, loyal, strong, incredibly kind and loved by many. Bill had a quiet, subtle sense of humor and his greatest enjoyment was his children and grandchildren. He lovingly shared his hobbies with each grandchild, fostering a shared passion in those who follow in his footsteps - from basketball, pickleball, fishing and reading.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers-in-law, Jim Kimura and Jim Meshishnek; niece, Naomi Kimura. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Holman; his sons, Robert (Natalie) Holman, and Will (Heather) Holman; his sister, Sandra Kimura, and her son, Tim Kimura; and his grandchildren, Taylor Holman, Jordan Holman, Piper Holman and Keira Holman, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bill's family would like to thank Dr. Kim and his team at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for their care and compassion. Bill would be truly amazed at the outpouring of support his family has received during this time.

A celebration of life will be held from 3-6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Lewiston Community Center, 1424 Main St., Lewiston. All are welcome to come and share their special memories of Bill.

To make a gift in memory of Bill donations may be made to the LC Valley Pickleball Club, 3418 12th Street C, Lewiston, ID 83501, or the Lewis-Clark State College Foundation at 602 11th St., Lewiston, ID 83501.
