William "Bob" Hough

William Robert "Bob" Hough Sr., 100 years, of Hominy, Oklahoma passed away on January 21, 2021 at his residence in Hominy, Oklahoma.
Bob was born September 23, 1920 in Atoka County, Oklahoma, one of eleven children born to Jesse Travis "J.T" Hough and Clara Etta (Swindell) Hough. His father was a tradesman and a horse trader. His mother was a homemaker and mother.
He met Louella Jane Owens when he was stationed in San Diego, CA. He was hitchhiking from Long Beach to Seal Beach when Louella, her sister and brother-in-law picked him up. They married on May 1, 1945, in Seal Beach, CA and they were married one week short of 74 years before she passed away in April 2019. He has seven children: Virginia Lynn Hough and Cris Clint Hough who are deceased; Ruth Hope of Gene Autry, OK; Robert Hough, Jr of Apex, NC; Nina Lorine Turner of Sequim, WA; Travis Hough of Billings, OK and Alan Hough of Wynona, OK. He has 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Being the oldest child at 10 years old, Bob dropped out of school in the third grade to go to work helping his parents and siblings. He was a farmer and rancher as well as oilfield pumper, retiring in 1997 at age 77.
After joining the Marines, during WW11 he will never forget the long train ride to San Diego, CA. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Service Award with 2 stars and the Presidential Unit Citation Award with one star for his service in Australia, New Zealand, Tarawa and Guadalcanal.
He became a licensed minister at age 39, and primarily served neighboring churches in times of need. He refers to himself as a "relief preacher." He first belonged to Silver Lake Baptist Church in Bartlesville. In 1960, he and his family moved to Wynona where he served for many years as a member, minister and deacon at Wynona First Baptist Church. He continued his mission of service and support at First Baptist Church in Hominy. "Just a Little Talk with Jesus" is his favorite song.
In his century, Bob seen the world change in way he never imagined; the prevalence of cars and airplanes, the advent of television, cell phones and computers, not to mention the Great Depression, wars, births and deaths. All the changes in travel were memorable to him. His first trip from Kerrville, TX to Oklahoma was by horse and wagon. His most valued memories are of his wife. He and Lou traveled all over the United States visiting family. He loved Thanksgiving because of the time spent with his family. His favorite foods were roast with potatoes and carrots.
His words of wisdom: "Younger people need to listen to their elders and help them out some. There are a lot of wisdom and stories young people are missing today. Get off the couch and get away from TV and games. Learn some respect for others and give them a helping hand. Go to church. Get involved in church."
Bob is survived by: children, Ruth Hope, Robert Hough, Nina Turner, Travis Hough, Alan Hough.
Bob is preceded in death by: parents, Jesse and Clara Hough; wife, Louella Hough; daughter, Virginia Hough; son, Cris Hough; siblings, Leonard Hough, bealuh Hurst, Albert Hough, Travis Hough, Pete Hough, John Hough, Bell Berry, Eva Kroening, June Hough.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Hominy located at 202 S. Price Ave, Hominy, Oklahoma 74035.
Visitation for Bob will be Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 9:00AM-5:00PM at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be Friday, January 29, 2021 at 10:00AM at the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy, Oklahoma.
