Gray Funeral Home & Crematory - ClintonWilliam Bostwick “Bos” Howard, 74, of Clinton, SC passed away on February 19, 2026. Born on August 16, 1951 in Mongomery, AL, he is preceded in death by his father, William Bostwick Howard, Jr; his mother, Louise Missildine Howard; and his wife Dale Hudson Howard.
Bos graduated from Sydney Lanier High School where he ran track, did the high jump, played football, and enjoyed fixing radios and TVs as a side job. He spent his freshman year at Auburn University and finished with his BS degree in engineering from the University of South Carolina. He spent over 45 years working as an electrical engineer, where he was known for being hard working, a consistent help to others, and doing whatever it took to get the job done.
In addition to being a talented engineer, he was also a talented woodworker, painter, and was a chess Master. He was an avid Auburn football fan, loved duck hunting, the theatre, jazz, debating doctrine and politics, and smoking cigars on the porch with friends and his sons-in-law.
Bos was known for his charismatic jovial personality and was often seen joking around with others. When he wasn’t at work, you could find him in his woodworking shop, playing video games with Dale and talking with her on the porch, and supporting his daughters at the local theatre, band competitions, and dance performances. It was in his nature to be generous with his time and resources with both his family and friends. Someone once said of Bos, “Even if you simply needed a paperclip, Bos would drive hours just to give it to you.”
He is survived by his three daughters, Garrison Howard Holland (Seth), Barrett Howard Justice (Jonathan), and Marcia Grier Howard Marr (Robert); and his seven precious grandchildren William Lewis Justice, Hudson Anderson Justice, Dean Yates Justice, Charlotte Elise Marr, Rishav Thomas Marr, Joshua Chesterton Holland, and Sadie Elisabeth Holland who affectionally refer to him as “Poppy”. He is also survived by his sister Katy Joyce Fowler.
A memorial service will be held at Palmetto Hills Presbyterian Church in Simpsonville, SC at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 6th, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heritage Fellowship, whose members have loved our father well.
We find comfort in the knowledge that we serve a compassionate God who is full of mercy, steadfast love, and who promises to “wipe away every tear”. We trust that Daddy is finally resting and at peace and in the arms of our Savior who makes all things new.
