William Hulit, Jr. Obituary
William Hulit, affectionately known as "Pop Pop" to many, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Brandywine Assisted Living in Toms River. He was 89 years old. Bill was born in Red Bank to the late William and Arley (Hallenbake) Hulit, who both passed away before he was 14. Bill was placed in Jamesburg Boys Home until his aunt Jesse came and let him live with her.
From there, Bill was raised in Rumson and graduated Rumson-Fair Haven High School. After high school he chose to serve our country honorably in the US Airforce from 1957-1961. In 1964, he met and married Noreen and went on to have 4 children. In 1966, he went to work for Nestles' Company in Freehold. When you smelled coffee, you automatically thought of him. He came home every night smelling like the coffee factory. In 2001, after 35 years of employment, he retired.
Bill had a lot of "little" hobbies. First, he made sure his children, and niece and nephew, saw the United States. He loved driving. Every year for forever, he took the family camping for 2 – 3 weeks. He gave them the opportunity to travel and see the country. There are only a few states he did not drive through and along the way, they had the best vacations!
He was a man who loved his wife, children, and grandchildren fiercely. He loved bowling, coconut shrimp, a tall glass of beer, and car racing at Wall Stadium, where he worked in the "pit" for years. Bill worked tirelessly his entire life to ensure that his family had everything they needed. He always made sure to give all his girls a valentine and chocolate Easter bunny, even as adults. He had 3 daughters and 3 granddaughters and he treated them all like princesses; including his niece Michelle, whom he had the honor of walking down the aisle on her wedding day.
He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 40 years, Noreen in 2005, his sister Joan Trainer in 2015, brother-in-law Jack Trainer in 2022, and his mother-in-law Nora Cetroni in 2021.
He is survived by 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Dee Strollo of Hazlet, Melissa and Jim Southard of Riverside and Nora and Edmund Cassella of Forked River; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Denise and Barry Nash of Palmyra, NY; his grandchildren, Jennifer Harmon, Brenna Strollo, Olivia Melanson, Jimmy Cassella, and Melanie, Matt and Danny Southard; his nieces and nephew and their spouses, Guy and Lana Lafage of Pt. Pleasant Boro, Michelle and Guy Barretta of Scotch Plains, Jackie (Trainer) and Dave Wickenheiser of Lancaster, PA and Jamie Trainer of Mount Wolf, PA and many loving great nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved very much. He is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Nancy of Texas.
The family of "Billy Doritos" would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff and Brandywine Assisted Living in Toms River. Thank you for taking great care of him; he truly did love everyone there especially his aids. Words cannot stress enough how glad we were that he was in your care.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 15, from 4 pm until the time of service at 5 pm, at the Damiano Funeral Home located at 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch.
