William Martin Hunt, III, M.D.

July 20, 1951 - December 31, 2024

William Martin Hunt III, M.D. (Bill), 74, was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted Jacksonville psychiatrist for more than forty years. He passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, following injuries sustained in a tragic hit-and-run motorcycle accident.

A board-certified psychiatrist, Bill was a proud alumnus of the Menninger Clinic's residency program in Topeka, Kansas, where he refined his belief in thoughtful, relationship-centered psychiatric care. He was a graduate of Gainesville High School, The University of Florida, and The University of Miami School of Medicine. Following his medical training, he honorably served as a Major in the United States Air Force as a psychiatrist.

For decades, Bill served the Jacksonville community with quiet dedication, offering steady presence, careful listening, and deep respect for those entrusted to his care. Generations of individuals and families felt the ripple effects of his compassion, integrity, and commitment.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Ann Economus Hunt; his children, William Martin Hunt IV, Constance Hunt Worthy, and Alexander Leigh Hunt; and his cherished grandchildren. Bill was a lover of music, motorcycles, family, fun, and lifelong learning. To know him was to learn something new - and to feel deeply loved and accepted.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, at San Jose Episcopal Church, 7423 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32217.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to the San Jose Episcopal Day School Scholarship Fund, a cause close to his heart and one that brought deep meaning to him and his family.

Not entirely positive I´d be here without Dr. Hunt. I was a difficult patient during the hardest days of my life and he treated me with tenderness, compassion, and a real desire to help. And he did help, I´m healthy now. I´ll never forget his contribution to that. The world was a better place with him in it.

I was so sad to hear today of the passing of Dr. Hunt. I thought of him not only as my doctor but also as a friend. I was a patient of Dr. Hunt for almost 20 years. He had such a sweet and caring way about him. He helped me through so many trails and losses.
I will miss our talks. He was just a wonderful human. To Ann and the kids, my heart breaks for you all. What a loss.
See you in Heaven Dr. Hunt.
Thank you for taking such sweet care of me for so many years.

Our deepest sympathy to Mrs.Ann and family . We are keeping y'all in our thoughts and prayers
Dr. Hunt was an amazing Doctor, so soft spoken and always made you feel comfortable with him.
I had a blessing of being his patient of 32 years and he helped me to understand that sometimes certain mental health problems cannot be healed, but stay on your medicine.
He taught me a lot about my Major Depressive Disorder and how to deal with it the best I can through my Medicine and talk therapy.
I am sure going to miss him and seeing Mrs. Ann, they were always so kind to me. Finding another great Doctor like Dr. Hunt is impossible, but I will try to find one at least half as good. My Anxiety is through the roof knowing I will never be able to discuss all the hurt and problems and medical issues I have with him again.
I will see him again when Jesus Christ comes for his people. Rest in peace Dr. Hunt I know God must have needed another Angel.
Mrs. Ann and family, please take care of yourselves during this time of great loss. I know God says he will never leave us nor forsake us.
May God bless y'all with many wonderful memories of this most intelligent, giving, kind and amazing man. He is sorely missed.
A patient of 32 years,
Pamela F.
