William Neil Ipson passed away on April 7, 2025 in
Ogden, Utah. He was born on December 24, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Zelma (Twitchell) Ipson and Neils Christian Ipson, Jr.
Early in his childhood, his family moved to Washington Terrace, Utah where he reveled in outside play with his siblings and neighborhood friends: running, jumping, and returning home filthy at dinnertime. His gentle personality made him a favorite, and he loved fishing and playing in the Weber River as a boy.
He served in the 505th Infantry, 82nd, Airborne Division from October of 1962 to 1965. During his term as a paratrooper, he was sent to the Dominican Republic in "Operation Power Pack." He was honored with the Purple Heart Military Medal of Valor for his distinguished service while preserving American interests in the Dominican Republic's civil war.
On December 8, 1973, he married the love of his life, Teresa Lusi, in
Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solidified in the
Ogden, Utah Temple. During the early years of their marriage, they fostered several children who benefitted from their kindness and William's gentle influence. They spent their years together traveling and exploring, often bringing nieces and nephews and the many children Teresa watched in their home along with them on their adventures. "Uncle Willy" was a quiet and stable force for good in all of our lives.
William was a collector of any and all things: the D.I. was a favorite place for treasure hunting. An avid music lover, Weber State basketball fan, and always up for a good time, William maintained his friendships for decades and was always seen as someone to rely on by those who knew him best. Open minded and laid back, he was ethical to his core.
He continued to serve his country in the Army Reserve until 1998 while simultaneously working at Hill Air Force Base, maintaining military aircraft. He retired from Hill AFB in 2017 after over 30 years of service to his country.
He is survived by his sister MaryEllen Hazen, brother Russell (Nedra) Ipson, sister-in-law Adele Ipson, as well as beloved nieces, nephews, countless great and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as his best friend of over 60 years, Hank Peterson and several others who adored William. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, brother Bevan Ipson, sister Phyllis and brother-in-law John Moore, sister Gayle Ipson, and brother-in-law Vernon Hazen.
The family would like to thank the tireless employees of the George Wahlen Veterans Home in
Ogden, Utah for their priceless care and compassion in William's last months.
He will be interred at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah, at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 14. A viewing will be held earlier that day at Myers Mortuary in
Ogden, Utah from 9:45 to 10:45, followed by a memorial service at 11. William would remind us all to stop, breathe, and enjoy what this life has to offer.
