William "Bill" Keys was born in Putnam County, Indiana to J. Evarts and Elsie (Chappell) Keys on September 6, 1931. He passed away on July 26, 2025 at Whitlock Place in Crawfordsville.
Bill grew up in the Waveland area and was a 1949 graduate of Waveland High School. After graduation, he served in the US Army and later made his way to Grant County, Indiana where he lived for many years in Fairmount.
He loved all things motorized: Cars, trucks, motorcycles and antique tractors. In later years his hobby was restoring old tractors, motor scooters and lawn tractors. There was little he could not do mechanically. For many years he was a long-haul trucker where he often found old tractors as he travelled and would bring them home to repair and restore.
Bill also loved music and played his guitar with friends, gathering to play country as well as gospel tunes.
A Christian believer, he was met in heaven by his parents; son, Steven E. Keys; as well as sisters, Mildred Thompson and Dorothy Kincaid; and brother, James E. Keys Jr.
Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he will be greatly missed by friends and family. Bill leaves behind three grandchildren; several great grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
A visitation for Bill will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025 from 4-6 pm at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S Main Street in Fairmount. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 3:00 pm with a visitation prior from 1-3pm at Browns Valley Christian Church, outside of Crawfordsville.
