Bill joined the NYPD and was awarded the Police Combat Cross in 1970. He retired as a Detective Sergeant in 1994. After leaving the police force, Bill worked for US Airways for over a decade. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his twenty-eight grandchildren and traveling.
Bill was predeceased by his mother Margaret, his father Thomas, his sister Eileen, his brother John and his son in law John O'Hara. Along with his wife, children and grandchildren, he is survived by his brother Michael, his wife Vera and their family.
He will be remembered fondly by all who loved him for his colorful colloquialisms, acerbic wit and his uncanny accuracy with a flip flop.
