Brigid "Della" Kivlehan of Orangeburg, died Aug. 13, 2024 at home. She was 86.
Mrs. Kivlehan was born May 18, 1938, in Claremorris, County Mayo, Ireland to Patrick and Mary Oates. She was married to Denis Kivlehan of Tubbercurry, County Sligo. A resident of Orangeburg since 1970, she formerly lived in the Bronx.
Mrs. Kivlehan formerly worked as a switchboard operator in NYC and she was a nurse at Nyack Hospital for 14 years.
She was a devout parishioner of St. Catharine's Roman Catholic Church in Blauvelt where she served as Eucharistic Minister. She also volunteered with Catholic Community Services, St. Joseph's Food Pantry and the local library.
Mr. and Mrs. Kivlehan were founding members of Rockland Irish-American Cultural Center in Blauvelt, where she formerly served as recording secretary and volunteered in aid of the children of Northern Ireland through the Project Children organization.
Mrs. Kivlehan is survived by her daughters, Maureen LaBarbera of Willmington, NC and Patricia Dougherty (Charles) of Glenside, PA; her son Thomas (Mary Ellen) Kivlehan of Dresher, PA; her sisters Margaret Kennedy of Dumont, NJ, Chrissie Finnerty of New Fairfield, CT, Julia Fegan of Blauvelt, NY, Kathleen Walsh of Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo, Ireland; her brother Patrick of Dumont, NJ; her grandchildren James, Jacob, Grace (Tengco), David and Sarah LaBarbera, Áine, Megan and Denis Dougherty; Molly, Declan and Maeve Kivlehan; her great grandchild Gianna Tengco.
She is predeceased by her husband, Denis Kivlehan; son-in-law David LaBarbera; her sister Evelyn Flynn and her brother Martin Oates, and several sister and brothers-in-law.
The wake is Friday, Aug. 16th from 4-8pm at Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10am at St. Catharine's Church, Blauvelt, NY.
Burial follows in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet.
