William Lee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palmer Funeral Homes - Welsheimer Chapel-North on May 20, 2025.
William "Bill" Jennings Lee, aged 82, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025. Born on January 15, 1943, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Margaret (Gish) Lee and Edward J. Lee, Bill was a man whose adventurous, competitive spirit and loving heart left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Bill lived a full and vibrant life, marked by a dedication to his family and community. He leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 25 years, Judy A. (Dougan) Lee, who shared not only his love for adventure but an unwavering commitment to one another. He was an accomplished marathoner, sailed on tranquil waters and cycled through scenic landscapes with Judy. Bill's legacy of love and adventure will be cherished by his daughters, Linda (Larry) May of South Bend, IN and Kathy Singer of Westfield, IN, his son, Richard "Rick" (JoAnne) Lee of Peyton, CO, as well as his stepchildren, Ann (Brian) Moran of Tucson, AZ, Robert (Bernadette) Amico of Granger, IN, and John Amico of Eau Claire, MI. Bill is also survived by his brother, Robert "Bob" (Pat) Lee of South Bend. A guiding force in the lives of his 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, Bill's spirit will forever echo in the lessons he imparted to them.
Bill attended DePauw University and embodied the principles of service and leadership in his professional life as well. Bill was the proud owner of C.E. Lee, a paint and decorating company, where his ethic of hard work and excellence set a standard for all who worked alongside him.
Volunteering with organizations such as Samaritan's Purse and Habitat for Humanity, Bill's selflessness enriched the lives of countless individuals. Bill played a key role in advocating for bike lanes in South Bend, dedicating countless hours to mapping routes, collaborating with local government, and alongside Judy, championing cycling throughout the city. Those who knew him will remember a man who was not only adventurous and loving but one who gave of himself without hesitation or expectation of return.
When Bill wasn't volunteering or running his company, he could often be found with tools in hand creating, building, and fixing. He had a natural talent for woodworking and a true passion for tinkering in his "shop". With his passing, the world has lost a remarkable soul. Yet, through his actions and wisdom, Bill's spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know him.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am, Friday, May 23, 2025, at Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Rd., South Bend, IN 46635.
Contributions may be made in Bill's honor to Habitat for Humanity, Honor and memorial gifts | Habitat for Humanity or Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.

My condolences to the Lee family. My memories of Bill were always in Macatawa, MI as he was next door to us at the cottage. Bill was always windsurfing or biking around the Holland area in the 1980's and 1990's. He was always friendly and we both had a love for Notre Dame football. Here is hoping he is at peace for a kind soul.
