William D. Littlefield 'Bill' of Portsmouth, NH, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, at Portsmouth Hospital. He was born on June 16, 1954, in Exeter, NH, to the late Donald E. Littlefield and Priscilla J. (Field) Littlefield.

A graduate of Exeter High School, Bill went on to pursue his lifelong love of history, seeking opportunities to learn and share his knowledge with anyone who had time to listen. Bills passion for history drove him to pursue and earn his Bachelors degree in history from UNH later in life. He was proud of this achievement and continued his passion for history both personally and professionally.

For over 30 years, Bill worked at the UNH Library, a place he deeply enjoyed and valued, until his semi retirement in 2005. After leaving UNH, Bill brought his knowledge and enthusiasm for history to the Albacore Park in Portsmouth, where he served as a historian. When not at the Albacore Park, Bill spent many hours with Historic New England, giving tours at the Langdon House, Jackson House and Wentworth–Coolidge Mansion in Portsmouth-experiences he truly cherished.

Bill was a proud Mason and an avid reader who loved to spend time walking the streets of Portsmouth, always eager to learn more about the city's rich past. He also enjoyed spending time at Portsmouth Library, driving his Volvo and fine dining at the Library Restaurant and Oar House deck in Portsmouth, where he shared many delicious meals and conversations with his family and friends.

He is survived by his brother, Bryan Littlefield and his wife Denise of Newmarket, NH; his niece, Devan Cookson and her husband, Robert, of Newmarket; their sons, Jaxon and Cooper; his nephew, John Littlefield, and John's girlfriend, Samantha Dunton of Newmarket, NH; as well as many cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 26, from 4–6 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine Street, Exeter, NH, followed by a funeral service at 6 PM. Burial will take place the following morning, Saturday, September 27, at 11 AM at Maple Lane Cemetery Lane Stratham, NH.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Portsmouth Historical Society, 10 Middle Street, Portsmouth, NH 03801. Or online at https://portsmouthhistory.org/make-a-donation/
