William Rufus “Bill” Lucky, of Burleson, TX, passed away on July 5, 2024 at the age of 90. Bill was born on March 26, 1934 in Cisco, Texas to David Marion Sr. and Mary Florence Lucky. He was serving in the United States Air Force when he met and married the love of his life, Judy Hendricks, in 1959. They raised two daughters, Gail and Rhonda, in Killeen, TX where he worked for the telephone company. Later in life Bill was employed by the United States Army as a civil servant working as a Communications Specialist at Fort Hood and Fort Sam Houston. In their retirement, Bill and Judy moved to Mabank, TX where they spent their days enjoying beautiful sunsets, fishing on the lake, and welcoming friends and family into their home. In 2018, they began a new adventure living RV life in Burleson, TX to be closer to Rhonda’s family.

Bill made it a priority to lead his family according to God’s Word, encouraging church ministries, fellowship, and the breaking of bread. He spent his life living out Paul’s instructions to the Colossians: “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.” Everyone that knew Bill recognized his gentle spirit and how he always took a thoughtful pause, choosing his words wisely before speaking.

Bill was known as “Mr. Fix-It” and a “Tinkerer” to his grandchildren. In his free time, he could be found fixing old items, completing projects, and learning about new gadgets. He enjoyed being outdoors and in nature, whether that was sitting on his porch, fishing in his boat, or taking the kiddos camping. Most of all, Bill loved to be with his family. He was a dedicated husband of 64 years, a loving Daddy, and the best Grandaddy.

Bill is survived by his wife, Judy Lucky; his children, Gail and Bill Rosen and Rhonda and Scott Houghton; his grandchildren, Sean Houghton, Sabrina and Chris Blanchett, Brooke and Patrick Gurley, Beau and Emily Rosen, Jeremy and Kate Houghton, Joshua and Tessa Houghton, Jordan and Mike Black, Jonathan and Bybiana Houghton, and Sydney and Daniel Welch; his great grandchildren, Brady, Joslin, Jackson, Makenzie, Ellanor, Olive, Margaux, EJ, Finn, Winnie, Everly, Shiloh, Harper, Santiago, Wren, Teddy, Norah, David, and another on the way; his sisters-in-law, Lunelle Lucky and Regina Lucky; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Marion Sr. and Mary Florence Lucky; his siblings, Laveta Lucky, David Marion Lucky Jr. and George Lucky; and his nephew, Eric Lucky.

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, the visitation will be held at 1:30pm followed by the funeral at 2:30pm. Both will be located at Bethesda Baptist Church in Burleson, TX
