William Macon Shepherd, 83 of Northport, passed away June 1, 2025 at DCH Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 10:00 am at Magnolia Chapel North with Bro. Bo Lloyd officiating and Magnolia Chapel North directing. Visitation will be held at the chapel thirty minutes prior to the service.
William Macon Shepherd was born in Tuscaloosa on August 22, 1941. He spent his formative years in Berry, Alabama, alongside his parents, Julian and Czarina, and his four siblings. Macon married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Joan Watkins, and together they enjoyed sixty-four years of happy marriage. The couple moved from Berry to Northport, where they raised their two sons, William Macon and Julian Holley.
Macon began his career working in roofing and sheet metal for McAbee Construction. In 1982, he transitioned to a position as maintenance foreman at Michelin Goodrich, where he remained until his retirement in 2003.
He had a wide range of interests, including restoring clocks, genealogy, Civil War history, timberland management, and playing both the guitar and piano.
Macon was a devoted family man, blessed with six grandchildren: Sarah Elizabeth Shepherd, William Macon Shepherd III, Julia Shepherd Johnson, Sophie Shepherd Duncan, Julian Holley Shepherd II, and Barrett Macon Shepherd. He was also the proud great-grandfather of four: Cecilia, Annie, Caroline, and Grace Duncan.
Faith, family and friends were central to Macon’s life. He attended St. Mark in Northport, Alabama.
