Gary Stephen Dunaway, age 74, of Northport, Alabama passed away March 9th peacefully at his home and surrounded by his family. Services will be held on Sunday March 15th at Carroll's Creek Baptist Church at 3:30pm with Pastor Jeff Knight officiating. Visitation will be held before the service starting at 2pm.
He is preceded in death by his parents Albert "Jim" Dunaway and Mary Dunaway and his sister, Rhodie.
Survivors include his wife Nancy of 53 years; two sons Matthew (daughter in law, Jennifer) and Casey (daughter in law, Emily); five grandchildren Tyler, Leah, Jackson, Allie Brooke, and Anna Claire; brother Dennis and sister in law Peggy, nephew, Denny and niece Jamie.
Steve retired from AT&T (South Central Bell, BellSouth) after 43 years of work. He then served as the Associate Pastor at Carroll's Creek Baptist Church for several years. In addition, Steve was the Sidelines Communication Director for the University of Alabama Football Team for 22 seasons which included winning 6 National Championships.
He was a graduate Walter Wellborn High School, Jacksonville State University, and Birmingham Southern University.
Steve was most known for his Faith, his love for his Family, and his passion for Football. Those who knew him would often hear him say "The main thing is to keep the main thing, the main thing". For Steve, the main thing was sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with as many people as possible. He found joy in teaching other people how to share the Gospel with others.
He will be missed and never forgotten...and one day we will see him again. Well Done.
