Billy Joe Dunaway

DUNAWAY, Billy Joe, 79, husband of Dinah Dunaway, passed away Friday, February 27, 2026, in Lexington, KY. He was born March 17, 1946, in Lancaster, KY, to the late Virgil and Lida Dunaway. Billy was a hard worker. He was a man who could build or fix anything. He enjoyed using those skills to help with family projects. He loved his family, his children, grandchildren, and most of all, his wife of nearly 64 years, Dinah. Other than his wife, he is survived by his three daughters, Sheila (Eric) Wheeler, Luvenia Dunaway, and Angela Chappell; a son, Billy Joe Dunaway Jr.; nine grandchildren, Ashley, Trista, Brittany, Erica, Stephanie, Brandon, Dustin, Larry, and Leslie; twenty-five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Fred, Virgil, and Gary; and numerous nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, Billy is preceded in death by nine siblings, Bobby, James, Imogene, Sarah, Doris, Mildred, William, Johnny, and David. A 2:00pm service will take place Wednesday, March 4, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home – Main St. Burial will follow at The Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-2pm Wednesday, at the funeral home.
