William A. "Bill" Marchand

NEW HARTFORD – William A. Marchand, 71, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at his home. He was the loving husband of the late Margaret "Midge" (Langston) Marchand for 11 wonderful years. Born May 8, 1951 in Norfolk; the son of the late Clarence and Edith (Curtiss) Marchand.
Bill was a Trooper with the Connecticut State Police for 23 years retiring as a Sergeant in 1997. He used his talent and precise knowledge of law enforcement training and weaponry to work at Colt for four years in sales and then his own business; Marchand Armaments Division.
He was raised at the Western Star Lodge #37 A.F.A.M. in Norfolk and then he was a Past Master and presently an active member and Secretary of the St. Andrew's Masonic Lodge #64 in Winsted. He devoted a lot of his time to assisting the lodge.
He also loved motorcycles and cars. He was a lifelong ham radio operator and recently enjoyed photography.Bill loved his community and served as 2nd Selectman in New Hartford for several years. Bill also volunteered his time and was Chairman of the Barkhamsted/New Hartford RRDD #1 for 9 years. He leaves a legacy of sense of humor and integrity.
He is survived by his three children, Diane Elmore and husband Kevin of NJ, Sean Marchand and wife Tammy of CA and William Marchand of NH; grandchildren, James and Jaden Elmore of NJ and Rhianna Densel and Cade Marchand, both of CA; and extended family and countless friends.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 30 Prospect Street, New Hartford at 10 AM. Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Center Cemetery, Norfolk at 9 AM. There will be no calling hours.
