Graveside services for William David Marlow IV "Pops" will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the Marlow Cemetery in Ruleville, MS. He died at his home on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Indianola.
He was born on January 10, 1943, in Greenwood, MS, and was raised in Ruleville, MS. In 1962 he graduated from Ruleville High School where he was Mr. RHS, quarterback for the football team, and played baseball and basketball. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1965, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Economics. While at MSU he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He sold his Tennessee Walking Horse "Becky's Lil Molly" to afford to go to MSU. David joined the Army National Guard receiving the rank of Staff Sergeant E6 serving for 6 years. During his enlistment, he was deployed to help in the cleanup of Hurricane Camille. After college, he returned home to farm until 1985.
On July 23, 1966, he married Kathryn Ann Trippe of Inverness at the Inverness Baptist Church. They made their home in Ruleville where he and his father opened Ruleville Parts, Inc. in 1974 and continued until its closing. Soon after, in 2001, David started working at North Sunflower Medical Center Department of Sunflower Medical Equipment where he was known as the "ladies' man".
He loved all animals and people, quail hunting and raising quail. He loved to cut grass, work in the pecan orchards, and watch college football with family. When he was younger, he loved horses and showing Tennessee Walking horses in Germantown, TN.
He is preceded in death by his father, W. Dee Marlow III, his mother Vera Alice Ray Marlow, and a sister, Becky Ford.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathryn Ann Marlow; son, William David Marlow V (Tammie); daughter, Penelope Marlow Goodman (James); four grandchildren, William David Marlow VI of Indianola, MS, Turner Pratt Lucas (Callie) of Madison, MS, Anna Addison Marlow (Landon) of Meridian, MS, and Emma Kathryn Lucas of Cleveland, MS; step-grandchildren, Wes Franklin (Ann Katelyn) of Cleveland, MS, Skylar Franklin (Adam) of Jackson, MS and Hannah Franklin of Ruleville, MS; 3 step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many cousins.
Pallbearers will be Robert Maxwell, Ben Hollis, Albert (AJ) Carpenter, David Marlow, Pratt Lucas, and Will Marlow; honorary pallbearers will be Duke Morgan, Larry (Jap) Bradshaw, Eugene Walters, Bobby Maxwell, Guy Thornton, and Sunflower Medical Equipment.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice of North Sunflower and request that memorials be made to the donor's choice in his honor.
