William Alfred Martinez (Willie), born August 3, 1946, and a lifelong resident of Medanales, New Mexico, passed away on August 31, 2025, at the age of 79.

William was born and raised in Medanales, where he devoted his life to family, community, and hard work.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Max I. and Ramona M. Garcia Martinez; his siblings, Ramon and Teresita C. Martinez; his in-laws, Agustin (Jose L.) and Helen G. Garcia Salazar; his brother-in-law, Amarante (Sunny) Maestas; and his nephew, Dwain S. Salazar. He was also preceded in death by his beloved pets, Rocky and Bambi.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Georgia C. Salazar Martinez; his sons, Guillermo A. Martinez (wife Melissa) and Ramon M. Martinez; and his granddaughters, Mercedes and Alexandria. William also leaves behind his brothers, Paul O. Martinez (wife Angela) and Max I. Martinez (wife Geraldine); his sister, Rosemary E. Maestas; his brother-in-law, Isaac C. Salazar (wife Nancy); and his goddaughters, Miquela Martinez, Melinda Garcia, and Gabby Marquez. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved pet, Patrick Patch.

William dedicated 40 years of his life to Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he worked as a custodian and was an active member of the National Labor Union 16. He retired in 2001 and spent his later years enjoying time with his family, raising his sons, and creating lasting memories with his parents and siblings.

He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, fun-loving character, deep love for his family, and unwavering devotion to those he held dear.

Public Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 5:00 pm at the DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory in Española, NM, with a Rosary to follow at 6:00 pm.

Mass will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Santo Tomas El Apostol Church in Abiquiú, NM, at 10:00 am., with burial to follow at the San Antonio Cemetery in Medanales, NM.
