William Martisch

William "Willie" Martisch, 92, affectionately known as Bill, passed away on January 29, 2024, in Holmdel. Born in Newark, on June 12, 1931, to Mykola and Anna Martyshuck. Willie was raised in Newark, and lived in Irvington, prior to moving to Union Beach 60 years ago. He grew into a man of great character and warmth.
Bill was pre-deceased by his beloved parents, his cherished wife Barbara Martisch in 2021, his brother John Martisch, and his two sisters, Dolores Bauernhuber and Marie Martisch, his brother-in-law, William Sheridan, and two nephews, Billy Sheridan and Brian Sheridan. His memory will be treasured and kept alive by his surviving family. He was the proud father of William (Kathleen) Martisch of Union Beach, Nicholas (Lori Martin) Martisch of Holmdel, Barbara (Kenneth) Prezpadlo of Middletown, Kim Martisch of Union Beach, and Jaime Martisch of Union Beach. His sister, Helen Sheridan of Toms River, will fondly remember her brother's enduring spirit. Bill's legacy will continue to flourish through his grandchildren, Michael Martisch, Greg Lambrecht, Kelli Martisch, Stephen Lambrecht, Holly Lambrecht, and Joseph Martisch, and his adored twelve great-grandchildren, Isabella, Nicholas, Ella, Jaxson, Olyvia, Jameson, Savannah, Ameliana, Harper, Jett, Kenna, and Reagan. His extended family, including many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, will miss his generous soul and joyous heart.
Willie's patriotism shone brightly as he served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951-1954 during his enlistment Bill was in the Battle of Chosen Reservoir during the Korean war. Upon returning to civilian life, he dedicated many years to Newark Box Board as a Maintenance Mechanic and drove a school bus for the sports events for Henry Hudson Regional School. His commitment to service continued through his involvement with the American Legion Post #321 and the VFW post in Keyport. Willie was particularly passionate about youth sports, pouring his energy into the Union Beach Pop Warner in the 1970s. Those who knew him remember his unwavering work ethic, often working seven days a week to provide for his family.
Beyond his professional and service commitments, Bill was a man of varied interests. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as fishing, boats, gambling, the horse track, and the lights of Atlantic City were sources of excitement and enjoyment. A card game with friends or family was always a welcome pastime. Willie's love for sports was legendary; he was an enthusiastic fan, always ready to don a new jersey and cheer for the front-runner.
Above all, Bill cherished his family. His love for them was unending and unconditional. He was a constant presence in their lives, offering support, laughter, and guidance. The stories of his adventures and the wisdom he imparted will be passed down through generations, a testament to the life he lived so fully.
His passing has left an indelible mark on the hearts of his family and friends, but the memories created will serve as a beacon of his enduring spirit.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday from 4-8pm at the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg. On Friday there will be a 10:00am Mass at St. Ann's Church, Keansburg. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Middletown.In lieu of flowers please make donations to www.stjude.org
