William Lamar Mathews, age 77, passed away December 7, 2024. Born in Sylvester, Georgia, he served in the US Navy during the Vietnam war. He owned and retired from Mathews Transmission in Gastonia. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and family cruises.
He is survived by his daughters, Candy Ausburne and her husband Tom, Cindy Thompson and her husband Eric, and Martha Heisler and her husband Eric; brothers, Larry Mathews and Rocky Mathews; sisters, Brenda Wood, Rose Mathews, Tammy Corum and Stacy Mathews; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette Mathews; father, William Lee Mathews; and mother, Mary Booth Mathews.
Graveside Service's will be held with Full Military Honors on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Gaston Memorial Park. A visitation will be held prior to the graveside from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services in Mt. Holly.
