William Boswell Merkel, known to everyone as Bill, 86, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, in Williamsport. Born to the late Raymond A. and Anna B. (Boswell) Merkel on January 19, 1940, in Jersey Shore, PA, Bill lived a life filled with love for his family, dedication to his profession, and a deep appreciation for the great outdoors.
Bill graduated from Jersey Shore High School in 1957 and Temple University in 1961. He devoted his career to serving the community as a pharmacist, where he was known for his kindness and attention to detail. Outside of work, he was an avid lover of nature, enjoying fishing, hunting, boating, and camping. He was also a longtime Crosscutters season ticket holder and Philadelphia Phillies fan.
Growing up, Bill cherished his time spent with family in their store, Boswell's on Oak Street. A steadfast member of St. Luke Lutheran Church for many years, Bill's faith was an important cornerstone of his life.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Linda (Barner) Merkel; his second wife, Zee (Seasholtz) Merkel; and his brother, Timothy Merkel. He is survived by his loving wife, Glenda R. (Kreamer) Merkel; children, Ann Nelson; Warren (Nicole) Merkel; Jeffrey Merkel; Lorri (Steven) Amrom; Robert (Kathy) Snyder; Linda (Roberto) Muñoz, and Aleese (Michael) Drawbaugh, as well as 13 adoring grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A memorial celebration of Bill's life will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, located at 1400 Market Street, Williamsport, PA 17701. Family and friends are invited to visit from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the service.
