Bill was born and raised in Newark NJ, where he met and fell in love with Virginia Gaughan. They married and had four children. He was an avid golfer and loved to dance and play Santa Clause for his friends' children. When he retired, he was working for JB Hunt as a tractor trailer driver which he enjoyed. He was a loving husband and a good father.
Bill was survived by his loving wife Virginia, daughter Moureen and husband Michael Hinchcliffe, son William Merrihew, daughter Laura and husband Bill Vielee and daughter Michele Merrihew. He had five grandchildren, Joseph Hinchcliffe, Casey and Dawn Vielee and Luna and Caleb Wroblewski. Bill also has five great grandchildren, Sebastian and Arielle Hinchcliffe and Giovanna, Adrianna and Julianna Vielee. Bill was predeceased by his grandson Christopher Vielee which passed in 2010.
A memorial Service will be held at Scanlan Funeral Home 781 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Pompton Plains NJ from 4-8pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Bill.

Dear Virginia and Family,
Sorry to learn of Bill's passing ... Many fond memories of Gaughan Family reunions and gatherings. Bill was always at the center of those happy times and his memory will always be with us ... a wonderful guy and one of the Lord's finest indeed. Our sincerest sympathies ... Dave and Toni Richards
