William Newkirt Jr., affectionately known and loved by many as Lil William, Bill or Buddy, departed
this life on October 15, 2025, at the young age of 58, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in
Waynesboro, Georgia, he was the beloved son of William Newkirt Sr. and the late Evangelist
Barbara Newkirt.
Lil William graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1984, where he stood out both
academically and athletically. His love for sports-especially football-was evident throughout his
life and remained a lifelong passion. Whether cheering on his favorite teams or reminiscing about
his high school playing days, sports brought him joy and connection. His sense of humor, warm
heart, and generous spirit made him a joy to be around and earned him lifelong friendships.
At an early age, he joined Roberson Grove Baptist Church, beginning a lifelong walk of faith. H
later continued his service to the Lord as a dedicated trustee at St. Mary Baptist Church, remaining
steadfast in his commitment even as his health began to decline.
Throughout his life, Lil William was a hardworking man who spent many years employed at
various local factories. However, his true passion was found in the soil-he had a deep love for
agriculture and farming, which he pursued with great devotion until his health no longer allowed.
He will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him-especially for his quick wit, contagious
laughter, and the genuine kindness he extended to others.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted father, William Newkirt Sr.; three children, Kimberly (Anthony) Lovett of Waynesboro, "Treasure Fryer of Augusta, and Yermoni Newkirt' (Cori) of Augusta; five grandchildren, Anthony Lovett Jr., Jalen Lovett, Aubri Lovett, Indiah Fryer, and Lulani Emery; and one great-grandchild, Ariah Lovett.
He is also survived by four sisters: Linda (Alvin) Wimberly, Carolyn Newkirt of Waynesboro,
Charlene(Michael)Simpson of Hephzibah, and Portia Brown of Ft. Lauderdale; four brothers: Grant
(Denise)Young, Corey Newkirt of Waynesboro, Michael Brown, änd Harold Brown of Ft. Laudèrdale.
He is further survived by four aunts: Sallie Anthony and Betty Attaway of Waynesboro; MaryIngram and Sarah Newkirt of Augusta; one uncle, Roosevelt (Cherry) Newkirt of North Carolina;and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, a cousin whom was like a brother; Tommy Ingram and dear friends.
Among those who stood by his side through every season of life was his loving and devoted friend, Frankie "Poke," whose love and care never wavered.
William Newkirt Jr. was a man of faith, family, and quiet strength. His presence will be deeply
missed but never forgotten.
Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life well-lived and a love that will continue to inspire
us all.
