Statesboro, Georgia With deep sorrow and love, we remember Mrs. Alma Lee Newkirt, who was born on January 9, 1945, and entered eternal rest on September 12, 2025. Alma was the daughter of the late Mr. Charlie Pittman and Mrs. Rosie Perkins Pittman. She received her formal education in the Bulloch County School System and graduated from William James High School. With determination and perseverance, she put herself through nursing school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and went on to dedicate decades of service to Bulloch Memorial Hospital, later known as East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Alma retired as a scrub nurse technician in the operating room, where she was admired for her unwavering dedication and skill. In her early years, Alma loved traveling and spending time with her husband and family. She was the keeper of the family photo albums, always ready to share pictures and sometimes the ones others hoped had been forgotten. Alma cherished creating memories, and today we are blessed to remember her in such meaningful ways. After retiring, Alma devoted much of her time to serving at the soup kitchen of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she had been a faithful member since childhood. She also served in the church choir. When Alma was not serving at church, she could often be found in the kitchen baking and cooking, two of her greatest passions. And when she wasn't in the kitchen, she was cheering enthusiastically for her beloved Dallas Cowboys or Atlanta Falcons. Alma is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Charlie and Mrs. Rosie Pittman; her sisters, Joann Pittman Hendrix and Earline Pittman; and her brothers, John Ervin Pittman and George Pittman. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted husband, John Newkirt of Statesboro, Georgia; sons, Arthur Irvin and Charles Irvin, both of Statesboro, Georgia; Billy (Annie Jean) Newkirt of Garfield, Georgia; daughter Shelia (Andrew) Barnes of Douglasville, Georgia; brother, Charlie (Loureatha) Pittman of Columbia, South Carolina; sister, Lenora Hampton Blythewood of South Carolina; grandson, Charles (Connely) Irvin, Jr., of Augusta, Georgia; special niece, Jami (Nelson) Ford of Orlando, Florida; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom she held very dear to her heart. Alma will be remembered for her love of family, her generous spirit, and her steadfast faith. Alma touched countless lives with her kindness, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved A viewing for Mrs. Newkirt, will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025,from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M at the mortuary. Mrs. Newkirt will lie in repose at the church, on the day of service from 10 A.M. until the funeral hour. There will be no viewing after the eulogy. The funeral services for Mrs. Alma Lee Newkirt will be held Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Daniel Woodson, Officiating.
