William Alfred Nixon (Billy) passed away on December 28, 2025 just two days before his 99th birthday. Billy was the son of the late John Edward Nixon, SR, and Mary Sawyer Nixon. He was born on December 30, 1926 in Edenton, NC. He lived most of his life in Virginia Beach. Billy was a veteran of WWII while serving in the merchant marines. He was retired from the USPS as the manager of the Bayside Station Post Office with 32 years of service. He was past President of the Princess Anne Ruritan Club, and at age 60 he was employed at the Virginia Beach Sheriffs office as a Deputy. During that time, he was awarded Deputy of the Year. At the age of 70 he retired from the Sheriffs office. Billy enjoyed swimming, fishing, gardening and woodworking. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Billy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Edna Bazemore Nixon, three children from a previous marriage, son, Robert Trafton Nixon (Nancy), Ann Nixon Phillips (Edward), Timothy Ryan Nixon (Susan), and then Jeanne Smith Jeffer (Don) was brought into the family when he married Edna. one sister, Virginia Nixon Runnels, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five siblings, John Edward Nixon, JR, Clairine Nixon Brehm, Howard Trafton Nixon, Charles Dallas Nixon, and Dorothy Nixon Shaw.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10AM on Friday January 2, 2026 in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Rd Chapel with a funeral service to start at 11AM. Interment will follow at Princess Anne Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Chesapeake Beach Rescue Squad or to the Virginia Beach SPCA.
