William O'Neill Obituary

William "Bill" O'Neill of Rochester. Loving husband of Sharon. Dear father of Jennifer (Jeremy) Brown, Bart O'Neill, Bridget (Scott) MacDonald, and Kathleen O'Neill. Devoted grandpa of James, Joseph, Anna Mary, Daniel, Grace, Emma, Matthew, Connor, Mary, Jackson, and Mark. Brother of Maureen Schlum, June (Richard) McIntyre, the late John, Mary, and Ann.
Bill was a man of faith, love, perseverance and humor, was a devoted husband of 52 years to his beautiful wife Sharon (whom he called Bear), a proud father of four children and a loving grandfather to eleven grandchildren.
Bill lived by these simple principals, God first, Family second, and everything else third. He never tired of trying to prepare his wife and children for the day he was called Home and remained committed to the plan God had for him even through his toughest days.
Bill was in the first graduating class at Brother Rice High School. He went on to serve his country as a Private in the US Army spending most of his time in Germany as a marksman (Rifle) and driving tanks until he was honorably discharged. He met his beautiful wife while working for Pitney Bowes and then ultimately spent his career as a Recruiter for the automotive industry.
Bill cherished most his marriage to his sweet wife Sharon. A marriage built of faith, unconditional love, and resolute commitment, it was a marriage that stood the test of time. Chatting about the days events, and their hopes and dreams for their children was what they looked forward to the most. Hosting Family celebrations and holiday get togethers was always one of their favorite things to do together, particularly when hosting on their deck overlooking freshly trimmed trees and colorful floral gardens.
Being a father was Bill's greatest joy and was the happiest when he was surrounded by family, friends and his dog Carter. His children knew how lucky they were that God chose him to be their father and they loved engaging in his conversations, listening to his advice, laughing at his jokes. While his grandchildren loved his playful spirit and contagious smile.
Bill will be remembered as a true Irish gentleman who was poised with old world class, had a great sense of humor and an unwavering appreciation for those who served others. Never taking for granted the power of just being still, his presence alone was a true comfort even during the darkest times.
Bill was dearly loved and will be forever missed. Until he took his last breath, he was reassured that his wife and children were together and would continue to take care of each other finding peace in knowing that he would always be watching over them.

"Family". It was always evident to us that Bill knew that there is no bond stronger than the one that exists in a family. This bond allows us to fail without fault, to learn without loss, and to love without condition. It is how we become who we are. Bill's kindness to us and his love for his family will forever remain in our hearts. We were so lucky to be his neighbors and friends for so many years. Rest In Peace now, Bill.
