Mr. William Thomas Oody, age 84, of Newport, passed away Saturday evening, July 1, 2023 at his home.
Mr. Oody served in the United States Air Force. He was retired from Tennessee Department of Transportation and he attended First Christian Church of Newport as long as his health permitted.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Brenda Russell Oody; parents Andrew and Fannie Oody; father-in-law and mother-in-law Scott and Nancy Russell; sisters Frances (Alton) Brooks and Lucy Mae Oody and brothers Charles Oody and James Oody.
Survivors include his daughters Nancy (Ricky) Martin, Carol (Bobby) Cody and Linda Lunsford all of Newport; grandchildren Nick Martin, Rachel (Brad) Reece, Kristin (Josh) Holt, Dillon (Ashley) Martin, Sarah Cody (Jordan Cashen), Bobby Jordan (Summer) Cody and Aaron Lunsford; eight great-grandchildren; brothers Harley (Ellen) Oody and Jack (Mary) Oody; mother-in-law Alice Russell; sisters-in-law Scarlet (Peter) Moser, Pam (Reuben) Jones and Carolyn (Leroy) Plemons; brother-in-law Wally (Ashley) Akins. Additional survivors include several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including dearest friends Charles McNabb, Terry Hux and Doyle Pruett.
Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m. Thursday July 6, 2023, at Union Cemetery for the 1:00 p.m. graveside service. Military Honors will be provided by Newport American Legion Post 41. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning at Costner-Maloy & Brown Funeral Home.
