William Edward Parker

William Edward Parker, a stalwart in his community and a devoted family man, departed this life on August 20, 2024, in Bentonville, Arkansas, at the age of 100. Born on June 18, 1924, in Fort Scott, Arkansas, William's life was a tapestry woven with dedication, care, and an unwavering commitment to both his loved ones and his professional calling.

A graduate of Stillwater High School, William's thirst for knowledge and service led him to Oklahoma A&M, where he pursued his education until the winds of World War II beckoned him to enlist in the U.S. Army. Serving in the medical corps during the Pacific Campaign, he not only provided care to those in need but also found joy in playing the trombone in the military band, contributing to the musical legacy that would follow him throughout his life. His service will be honored with a Military Funeral Honors ceremony that will echo through generations.

William's career was defined by his deep-rooted empathy and professionalism as he owned and operated several funeral homes, most notably Parker Funeral Home of Perry and Newton Funeral Home of Perry. His vocation was more than just a profession; it was a manifestation of his intense compassion and his desire to be there for families in their most vulnerable moments. His legacy in the funeral service industry is substantial, guided by his belief in honoring lives with dignity and respect.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, William was a man of profound character. He was known for his hard work, loyalty, and the ability to nurture strong, meaningful relationships. A talented musician and passionate about piano, he dedicated countless hours to sharing his love of music, enriching the lives of those around him. His commitment to the Methodist Church of Perry was remarkable, inspiring many through his active participation in Sunday School, while also serving in organizations like the Perry Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club-where he played a pivotal role in establishing the Oklahoma Lions Eye Bank.

He leaves behind a cherished family, including his beloved son William P. Parker, a retired attorney from Oklahoma City, and his son Steve Parker, the owner of Ditch Witch in Mobile, Alabama. His grandchildren-Hillary Parker Tenney and her husband Tim, Whitney K. Schones and her husband Bryan, Brian Parker and his wife Christy, and Brooke O'Dell and her husband Paul-along with his 14 great-grandchildren and an extensive extended family, will forever remember him as a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who instilled love and strength in their lives.

William is reunited in spirit with his cherished wife, Margarie Jean Cress Parker, and grandsons William Paul Parker, II and Joel Parker. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Marion Parrisch, and wives Nancy Hoffelt Parker and Loretta Boss Parker.

As we gather to celebrate a remarkable life well-lived, we invite those who knew and loved him to partake in the tributes honoring his memory. A viewing will be held on August 27, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Brown-Dugger Funeral Home in Perry, Oklahoma. A funeral service will be held the following day at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, culminating in an interment at Grace Hill Cemetery at 12:30 PM.
