Plum Borough - William Potochnik, 93, died peacefully in Forbes Hospital, Monroeville, PA on January 26, 2022. He was born August 31, 1928 in Renton, Pennsylvania to Mathias and Frances Potochnik, one of four children. Billy attended Plum High School and enlisted in the United States Navy on September 26, 1945 and served until August 30, 1949. He met and married his wife, Ethel May Cook, in 1950.
Following Billy's discharge from the Navy, he drove tractor trailer and operated heavy equipment. Billy was a proud member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union 66 for more than 65 years. Billy is survived by his wife, Ethel May Cook of 72 years; son, William John (Sandy) Potochnik; two grandchildren, William Joseph (Christie) Potochnik and Jaime (Jim) Russick; five great grandchildren, Connor, Alaina, Cooper, and Caden Potochnik, and Jacob Russick; and one sister, Marion Nixon. His daughter, Melanie G. Potochnik predeceased Billy in April 5, 1977. His brother, Louis J. Potochnik and sister, Matilda Balson also predeceased Billy. Billy loved watching motorcar racing and Penn State Football.
Family and friends will be received Monday, January 31, 2022 from 10:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC. (MONROEVILLE/PLUM CHAPEL) 445 Beatty Road, Monroeville (412-856-4747). Burial will follow at Plum Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Penn Hills Baptist Church, 323 Hulton Rd., Verona, PA 15147. www.jobefuneralhome.com.
