Batavia - William Edward Prine, age 92, passed away on March 27, 2026, at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia, New York. In a beautiful testament to a lifetime of love, he passed on the very day he and his beloved wife, Mary Prudence Scott Prine, celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. He was born on March 2, 1934, in Syracuse, New York, to the late Fred Prine and Edna Irene Strong.
A proud veteran, William served in the US Army for three years, where he worked with early digital computers. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long and steadfast career, retiring from New York State Electric and Gas after 40 years of dedicated service.
William was an avid reader who found great joy in life on the family farm in Moravia, New York. He had a natural affinity for working with animals and will be fondly remembered for his homemade bread, pies, chili, and cocoa. A man of deep faith and strong community ties, he was an active member of the New York State Grange, Moravia Congregational Church, Hess Road Wesleyan Church, and Oakfield United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his six brothers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Mary; his children: William Frederick (Rosie), Kathleen Marie, Wesley James (Ruth), Roger Wayne (Lori), Ronald Carris (Uraiwan), and Keith Alton (Cynthia); his eight grandchildren: Jazrielle, Jace, Rianna, Erika, Rebekah, Crystal, Alexzander, and Dominic; fifteen great-grandchildren; and his two brothers, Francis and Dan.
Calling hours and a funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Ave, Oakfield, NY 14125. Calling hours will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, with the service immediately following at 1:00 PM. Private burial will take place in Reed Cemetery in Oakfield.
