William Ramsbotham Obituary

William "Bill" Bernard Ramsbotham

May 7, 1935 - August 13, 2025

William "Bill" Bernard Ramsbotham, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. He was born on May 7, 1935, in Augusta, Georgia, to Frances Cousart and Clarence Ramsbotham. He graduated from the Academy of Richmond County in Augusta and the University of Georgia with a major in Business Administration and as a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He started working for Sears, Roebuck and Co in 1960 in Greensboro as a management trainee and then served in different management capacities in Brunswick, Georgia; Gulfport, Mississippi; Tampa, Florida; and then back in Greensboro, where he retired in 1993 from the same company. He was a member of the Jaycees of Brunswick, a volunteer in schools in Tampa and Greensboro, a volunteer for the Democratic Headquarters in Greensboro and Court Watch of NC, and a lifetime member of Elks Lodge # 602. Following his retirement, he spent most of his time with his grandchildren. When they were young, they all gathered weekly for playtime with Pop and spent much time feeding the ducks at the Bog Garden. As he did with his own children, he supported his grandchildren throughout their lives by attending their school, sports, and arts/dance events. He loved spending time with them as they grew older and with all of his family his entire life, even through to the very end.

Bill was preceded in death by his son William Mark Ramsbotham; and is survived by his wife and love of his life, Mary Eleanor (M.E.), who he married on July 2, 1961. He is also survived by his children, Kimberly Anne and her husband Mark Hastings, and Pamela Leigh and her husband Brian Herndon; and by his grandchildren, Nicholas Hastings and wife Cala, MacKenzie Hastings, Garrison Herndon and wife Bailey, Colson Herndon, and Harleigh Ramsbotham. He is survived by one great-grandchild, Lawson Banks Herndon.

The family had a very special celebration of his life for and with him in May on his 90th birthday so he could see and hear all the love and memories in his Walk to Remember. The family will have a private memorial for Bill at a later date. Forbis & Dick Funeral Service is assisting the Ramsbotham Family.
