William Real Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Swartz-Givnish Funeral Home, Inc. on Sep. 9, 2024.
William (Duke) Real Jr. of Cogan Station passed away Friday, September 6th at The Gatehouse, Williamsport after a battle with lung cancer. Duke was born in Doylestown, PA was a long time resident of Newtown before moving to Cogan Station.
Duke is a graduate of Council Rock High School and he was dedicated to service having proudly served in the U.S. Navy and as a volunteer firefighter beginning at age 14 first with Station 45 Newtown Fire Association followed by Station 15 Hepburn Township. His passions were hunting, where he believed the best part of the day was sitting in a tree stand as the sun rose; and fishing most especially in his boat on the lake. His catch had a tendency to increase in size as he relayed the adventure from one person to another. He was a great storyteller and each and every one of his stories had a seed of truth to them. He loved camping with his family and traveling, especially cruising.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Theresa Gallo Real, their children Denise Real (Seth Webber) of Williamsport, Robert W. Real, Laura Ferringer (Craig) both of Trout Run, his grandchildren William (Trey) Real III, Nate Ferringer, Lucas Ferringer, and Dylan Real, his brothers James Real and Bill, not by blood but by choice, and many cousins. He is predeceased by his brother Thomas Real and his daughter-in-law, Cynthia Pessel Real.
Relatives and friends are invited to Duke's Life Celebration on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 10- 11 am and to his memorial service at 11:00 am at the Swartz Givnish Funeral Home, 323 Washington Avenue Newtown, PA. Interment with military honors were held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery. Memorial contributions in William's name may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Attention: OOTD Walks 199 Water Street, 11th floor, New York, NY 10038 AFSP.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ahlswede and Dr Nesbitt and the entire nursing and support staff at The Gatehouse, UPMC Family Hospice Team including Shondra, Chaplain Mark, his home aide Melissa and especially "the lady" Sheena. We would also like to thank Dr Ranasuriya, Donna and the group at Pulmonary Rehab, as well as Dr Elizabeth Klucka for your ongoing support and encouragement.
