William Reed Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Orland's Ewing Memorial Chapel - Ewing Township on Jan. 26, 2026.
William M. Reed Jr. of Montgomery Village, MD, passed away on January 23, 2026.

Born in Trenton, he could not participate in gym and other sports due to childhood asthma, but this did not stop him from being student manager for the swimming team in middle and high school, and statistician for high school football team. He went on to graduate from Rider University with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science.

Born and raised in New Jersey, he put his skills to work as an Information Technology Specialist in several states as far away as California. He began his career in IT work at New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance and Johnson And Johnson in New Jersey. He later moved to California to work for Hitachi, and continued to work at various companies across the country, eventually settling in Maryland where he worked at GEICO and then ending his career working for Marriott International.

William enjoyed attending theatre performances and anything to do with computers. Always resourceful, if something needed fixing he would get advice from friends or use the internet for directions or tutorial videos in order to solve the problem. He would help anyone he knew, regardless issue.

He loved his family and cared for everyone he came in contact with. His friends and coworkers expressed the following attributes to William:

"Down-to-earth, always went out of his way to help and made a lasting impact." He was " a valued friend and genuinely good man." A "very intelligent, great leader, kind, generous and caring soul." Bill was "very funny and sarcastic humor, super person." It was "an honor and a privilege to have known and worked with him."

William is survived by his sister Shirley Reed.

Funeral services are Thursday, January 29th at 2:00 pm at Orland's Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing, NJ. Visitation is on Thursday beginning at 1:00 pm until the time of the service. Burial will follow at the Har Sinai Temple section of Ewing Cemetery.

Bill was such a fun person with an extremely quick wit. He also had a kind heart and was always happy to help others. He will be missed.

Farewell to my great friend and co-worker:
As my new immediate supervisor at GEICO, I first met Bill over 20 years ago. As a supervisor, I´d have to say that Bill was one of the best. He was professional, dedicated, and committed to taking care of his people. Bill had a genuine kindness and ability to connect with people. Before he retired from GEICO, I would wager that, at the Plaza location, more folks knew Bill than didn´t. Although Bill had worked at several places before GEICO, I doubt that he would have ever left there if they didn´t decide to move off the mainframe. Because of this, I went into another area and Bill stayed to complete the off-mainframe migration after which he retired. Even after he retired, Bill and I stayed in touch and one day Bill informed me that he had taken a job at Marriott, and he really enjoyed it. A few months later, he notified me that Marriott had an opening, and he had recommended me for the position. I took the position, and Bill and have been co-workers for the last 2 ½ years. We´ve worked on several projects, conversed almost daily, and, to me at least, had developed a deep friendship.
I am extremely grateful for the time we had together. Bill was a wonderful friend, leader, and mentor to me and will be sorely missed.

I always liked to work with Bill at Geico.
When we all left he was the one that had a retirement party and invited many of us co workers.
His always happy demeanor and funny jokes made our high stress jobs more fun.
Bill was one of the good ones and I will miss our yearly reunions.

I knew Bill for many years at Geico. He was so smart and funny, and he will be greatly missed. I loved hearing his stories about all his adventures in the various companies he worked for and in places he lived. He always was able to help with any issue and he was definitely one of my main go to people when ot came to mainframe issues. Rest in peace always.
