William Rodgers, Jr. Obituary

William “Butch” Rodgers Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on March 29, 1959, in Rockwood, Tennessee, he was a beloved figure to all who knew him and a pillar of strength for his family.

William, affectionately known as "Butch," was the son of William Robert Rodgers Sr. and Judith Davenport Rodgers, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a proud graduate of Dorman High School, Class of 1977, where he nurtured his passion for sports, especially football. His loyalty to his teams was unwavering; he was an avid fan of both Clemson University and Dorman High School football, often seen cheering from the stands with a spirit that inspired those around him.

In his professional life, Butch dedicated many years to Michelin, where he worked tirelessly until his retirement. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment, traits that he carried into every facet of his life.

Butch's greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Lynn Rodgers, who was not only his partner but also his best friend. Together, they built a loving home filled with laughter and cherished memories. Butch was a devoted father to his sons, William "Trey" Rodgers (Ashley) and Tyler Rodgers, instilling in them the importance of family, love, and simple pleasures. He was especially proud to be a grandfather to Cooper and Coleman Rodgers, with whom he shared a special bond that brought him immeasurable joy. Fishing trips, family gatherings, and attending Alan Jackson concerts for Father's Day created lasting memories that his sons will treasure forever.

A simple man at heart, Butch found happiness in the little things. He relished the thrill of fishing, the excitement of a good football game, and the unconditional love of his beloved dog, Charlee. His warmth and love extended beyond his immediate family to his siblings, Don Rodgers (Lisa), Kaydra Threlkeld (Kevin), and to all his nieces and nephews, he cherished the time spent with them, creating a legacy of love and togetherness.

Friends and family alike will remember Butch for his loving nature and the deep affection he had for those around him. He was a steadfast supporter, a confidant, and a source of comfort, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a word of wisdom. His legacy is one of love, gratitude, and devotion, qualities that will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Shriners Hospital, an organization close to Butch’s heart.

A visitation of family and friends will be held on November 10, 2025, at 12:00 PM followed by a celebration of Butch's life at 1:00 PM at the JM Dunbar Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor and remember this remarkable man whose spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who knew him.

William “Butch” Rodgers Jr. will be deeply missed but never forgotten. As he embarks on his next journey, we take comfort in knowing he is reunited with his beloved parents, watching over his family with the same love and devotion he showcased throughout his life.
