William Wallace (Wally) Romans, 83, passed away September 17, 2023. He was born on February 14, 1940, to Loren and Doris (Dodd) Romans in Des Moines.
Wally graduated from East Des Moines High School in 1958. He served in the Air National Guard for six years and retired from John Deere Des Moines Works in 1992 after a 32-year career.
Wally enjoyed outdoor activities such as sailing, fly fishing, golfing, and birdwatching. He also was an Iowa State and Chicago Cubs fan.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Alice (Heggen) Romans; children, Denise (Bob) Garrett and Scott (Fran) Romans; grandchildren, Megan (Morgan) Lopes and Jacob Garrett; two great-grandchildren, Avery and Rowan Lopes; as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean; and brother, Jerry.
A Memorial Reception will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd) in Ankeny.
A special thanks to Peg, Wally's in-home nurse from Wesley Care Hospice, and to Taylor House Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Wesley Care Hospice or the American Heart Association.
