William Blackburn Russell, 88, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026. He was born on November 26, 1937, in Lyles, Tennessee to William and Lydia (Blackburn) Russell.

William proudly served his country for 29 years in the United States military, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. During his distinguished career, he served tours in both Korea and Vietnam, demonstrating steadfast dedication, courage, and leadership.

Following his retirement from military service, he worked for 15 years at the University of Missouri. William devoted his time to the simple joys he loved most. He found great happiness working in his yard, tending to it with pride and care. He was also passionate about old cars, spending countless hours restoring and maintaining them, and enjoyed showcasing his prized vehicles at local car shows. His love for family, service, and community defined his life.

William is survived by his loving daughter, Carol Russell; his grandchildren, Shawn (Sharon) Glore, KS and Marita Karl, MO; and his great-grandchildren, Kayla and Thomas Glore, KS. He is also survived by his brother, David Russell, TN; and his sisters, Sue Ellen Garrett and Sandra Bondurant, TN.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gisela Russell; his parents, William and Lydia Russell; and his daughter, Elisabeth Gisela "Betty" Shaver.

Friends and family will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Parker-Millard Funeral Service & Crematory, with a funeral service to be held at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Olivet Christian Church, 1991 Olivet S. Road, Columbia, MO 65202.

William will be remembered for his unwavering service to his country, his devotion to his family, and the pride he took in everything he did. His legacy of strength, love, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
