Obituary of William C. Ryan
William, "Captain Billy", Ryan, a dedicated and courageous man, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family and friends in Stony Point on March 13, 2024. He was 89 years old. Bill was born in Bayonne, New Jersey on August 23,1934. Bill married the love of his life, Nancy, on October 20,1962. They moved to Stony Point where they raised two children. Bill loved spending time with his family in Ashland, Massachusetts, family in Manhattan, family in Connecticut, RV camping, golfing, fishing, hunting, coin collecting, photography, tinkering in his garage, and organizing various outdoor activities. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus, an original member of the North Rockland Social Club, CRA hunting club, FDNY's - Holy Name Society, Emerald Society, and Union Delegate.
Bill served his country honorably as a United States Navy veteran as a Quarter Master on the USS Muliphen AKA 61, demonstrating unwavering commitment and bravery in defending his nation.
Following his military service, he continued his selfless service in the New York City Fire Department as a Firefighter in Ladder Company 43, a Lieutenant Ladder Company 26, and Captain of Rescue 3. He risked his life to protect others and uphold safety. His legacy of bravery, sacrifice, and service will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
In retirement from FDNY, he enjoyed spending time in his 5th wheel RV on the Florida Keys in the winter months with his wife, Nancy, and many friends. He will be missed by all that know him.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy, and his two children, Patrick, wife Jennifer, and Kathleen, husband Michael Gallagher. Bill is predeceased by sisters, Lydia Galton, Jane, brothers Joseph and Thomas "Doc" Ryan.
Friends, and colleagues, will cherish his memory, and carry on his spirit of service and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in William Ryan's name. The Ryan family would like to give special thanks to all the hard workers of Rockland Hospice, and our family health care aide Chi-Chi Orgi.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday March 20th at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral home, 71 N. Central Highway Garnerville from 11:00-3:00 and a religious, military, and FDNY service from 3:00-4:00.
A repast will be held at the North Rockland Social Club starting at 4:30.

I went to many fires with Bill at Ladder 26 and tested his patience probably as often; he never lost his cool. He carried the same attributes into his real life. Tom Kelly

A good friend and BROTHER for over fifty years. First met "Peaches" when he was a Lieutenant in L-26 and I was a Fireman in L-26-2. He was a brave and caring man that you could not help admiring and respecting. He will be more than missed. May God keep him in the palm of his hand. God bless you, you are in my prayers. Dan Finegan, Ladder Company 26-2
