William "Bill" Joseph Sabina, age 77 of Marion, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Fort Wayne Parkview Regional Medical Center.
Bill was born to William Francis and Catherine Anna (Hildebrand) Sabina on Dec. 23, 1944, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. In 1958 William Francis moved his family to Marion, Indiana, in order to begin work at the new General Motors stamping plant, Fisher Body.
Bill attended Bennett High School, Marion, where he participated as class yearbook editor, attended Hoosier Boys State, and received an invitation to the National Honor Society. In 1962 Bill graduated with academic honors.
Bill studied mechanical engineering at General Motors Institute for two years and became a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity before drafting into the United States Army. From 1965 to 1967, Bill served as a mortar specialist in Fire Department Center 5, stationed in South Korea. While in Changpa-Ri, Bill met his future wife, Kyu Sun Noh. Upon discharge Bill returned to Marion, Indiana, and wed Kyu Sun on May 25th, 1968.
When not working Bill enjoyed engaging his children in sports as a coach and president of the Van Buren Softball League. Bill retired from General Motors after forty years as a Die Maker. In retirement Bill enjoyed woodworking, gardening, singing in the St. Paul's Catholic Church choir, building model trains, watching sports, and listening to a wide variety of music.
Bill is survived by wife Kyu Sun, daughter Anna (Robert) Hylton, son Jim (late Stephanie), daughter Theresa (Jamie) Pinder and son John, brother Dave (late Kay and Robbie), brother Gerry, sister Mary Ann Hurt, nieces Catherine and Becky, nephew Brian, grandchildren Joseph (Danielle), Kayleigh (Robert), Jonah, Carrianne, and Joshua, and great-grandchildren Audrey, Quentyn, Charlena, Robert, and Ryleigh.
Bill was preceded in death by brothers Donald and Bobby and sister Catherine.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana with Father Ted Rothrock officiating.
Burial will immediately follow the funeral mass at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
